11KM Fun Run - Course Description

The Australian Outback 11km Fun Run/Walk course is completely off-road, made up of bush trails and graded, unsealed roads. The running surface consists of the famous “red earth” that can be found all over central Australia, and stunning views of Uluru (Ayers Rock) are waiting for you around almost every corner.

Please note that the course can be quite “sandy” depending on the weather conditions in the previous couple of months.

Setting off in a North-Easterly direction, you will have approximately 1km of graded road to navigate before you hit the “soft red earth” that central Australia is so famous for. Turning North-East towards the Ayers Rock Resort and then due North, the tracks underfoot will give you a real feel for life out in the bush.

After approximately 2 1/2 km you take a right turn onto another outback track where you will start to get some spectacular views of Uluru. Don’t forget to look up as you traverse over the top of the sand-dunes.

Heading once again in a Northerly direction, you take another right turn at the 4km mark. This will start to loop you back towards the finish area, but don’t think that the course is finished just yet. After approximately 6 1/2km you take a left turn onto one of the most private tracks in the area. Opened specifically for the Australian Outback Marathon, this 3 1/2km looping track has some of the best vantage points on the entire course.

After 10km you hit the main track back to the finish area to collect your reward, enjoy the views and tuck into your well-earned breakfast.

There is plenty of soft sand and a couple of small dunes for you to navigate but the end result will be well worth the effort!

Testimonials
Hi to the whole Travelling Fit Team Just wanted to say thank you for THE most amazing experience at the Australian Outback Marathon. Both Tina and I were blown away by the scenery, the attention to detail, amazing food and how well everything was coordinated. I have travelled extensively around the world and I would say the Outback was the most amazing experience of them all. A great combination of mind blowing scenery, the indigenous spirituality, the great hikes and the run itself. The attention to detail- having heaters at the start line, wheelie bins in the middle of no where so the landscape is preserved as just a couple of examples. And as for food- we ate like Kings- barramundi, steak, the best lamb cutlets, buffets. Well done everyone. Can’t wait to book another trip. Many thanks

Both myself and my partner Hannah had such an enjoyable experience. The hotel was in a perfect location both for the race and to explore the city. Super thankful for the pre and post race dinners offered in the package, as well as the opportunity to bring a supporter along. As a graduate of the Indigenous Marathon Project, I am deeply grateful for the relationship the foundation has with Travelling Fit and being given the opportunity to chase my goal of completing the Six World Majors. The Travelling Fit Team on the ground were amazing - a big thank you to them too :)

The Australian Outback Marathon had been on my bucket list for a few years. I was so pleased I was able to sneak away between lockdowns and spend 6 days with the Travelling Fit team and the group of happy runners I met there. I absolutely loved the marathon. It was hot, it was sandy, it was stunning, it was peaceful, it was challenging, it was cathartic, it was everything I dreamed it would be and more. Combined with the marathon, all the activities and tours over the 6 days made it the complete package of what a holiday should be. I could not recommend this trip more highly. Well organised, great new running friends, stunning scenery and memories that will last forever. Thank you!

If you only get a chance to run one race then this is the one to do, it should be on everyone's bucket list. We were told before the run to take time to enjoy the run and stop to take photos and look around and enjoy it, this is something I have never done on a run before but it was the best advice ever.

Frank and I had the most magical time during the AOM. Incredible views no matter which way you looked, Great accommodation, the way the AOM's incredibly experienced team just 'made' things happen. The Tours, especially the Kings Canyon tour, create those never to be forgotten' memories that stay etched in us - as does the red earth course we traversed during the event. Thank you so much 'Team AOM' for this fabulous experience.

If you haven't run the AOM you really should put this one on your list! It can only be described as an adjective salad! Amazing, unique and awe inspiring are only the tip of the iceberg... it was an absolutely incredible experience from beginning to end. Travelling Fit is a class act and continues to exceed all my expectations. It was simply fantastic!

In 2019 I took a chance and booked for the Australian Outback Marathon with Travelling Fit. I was a bit apprehensive about bringing my son and his young family along with me as I felt the kids might have to miss out on a lot of the "adult" activities. I was wrong. This was THE MOST AMAZING and mind-blowing experience we have had as a family. I can't praise the whole trip highly enough. The food was absolutely amazing, the staff were great, the accommodation was perfect and the race was unbelievable. I get emotional when I think about it, and can't imagine having another experience like this again. Everyone loved it, the food was AMAZING, activities and transfers were so well organized, there was plenty to do and it really wasn't that cold! If you have the chance to do this or are undecided, do it! I'll be going back. Thank you Travelling Fit for one of the top ten experiences of my life so far.
